Russian team Virtus.pro (VP) has won Malaysia’s very first Dota 2 Major, taking the bragging rights away from the only Malaysian player left in the finals; Yeik Nai Zheng or better known as MidOne who plays for Team Secret, pictured below.
Held in Axiata Arena over 3 days, The Kuala Lumpur Major saw 16 of the top teams around the world battle for a prize pool of USD1 million and 15.000 Dota Pro Circuit points.
Team Virtus.pro, which consists of Roman Kushnarev (RAMZES666), Vladimir Minenki (No[o]ne), Pavel Khvastunov (9Pasha), Vladimir Nikogosyan (RodjER) and Alexei Berezin (Solo), did not have an easy trip to the champions podium.
They initially lost to Team Secret in the Upper Bracket finals and had to overthrow Evil Geniuses in the Lower Bracket to reach the finals.
The grand finale was a thrilling, nail-biting, hair-pulling, ignore-your-GF 5 matches with VP taking the first game, amidst the cheering of the Malaysian crowd spurring MidOne on who had a slow start.
Team Secret fought back hard by winning games 2 and 3, but VP fought back harder with Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev doing the most damage with his Terrorblade. Even at his height of 6.3 feet, Secret’s captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov could not see RAMZES ramming his way through.
In the end, all Team Secret could do was defend their last barracks as VP made themselves at home in the enemy’s base.
All in all, a great night for Dota fans regardless of who you support. Catch the rerun on Twitch PGL Dota 2.
