While top Malaysian League of Legends team Kuala Lumpur Hunters were celebrating their advancement into the finals at Hyperplay Singapore, we spotted a familiar face making his way out and we decided to steal 2 minutes of his time.

The Youth and Sports Minister hopes that Malaysia will become an esports hub, not only in ASEAN but also Asia.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is aiming to tap into the billion dollar industry and expand it’s growth in Malaysia to help with the country’s youth development.

The passionate minister shares a little on why he’s in Singapore and also confesses to a rumour that’s been going around the gaming community…

He was speaking during a 2-day work visit to Singapore where he will be visiting the country’s youth hubs and also look into building similar centres locally.

Malaysia’s youngest minister added that he will also look into ways to provide an environment for gamers to grow, including proper training, facilities as well as altering the negative perception towards gaming as a career. 

He also believes that developing the esports market is important to help with developing the youth, especially in the ancillary industries like game development, programming, information technology and so much more!
